Nope. Didn't work did it... One would have thought there'd be a pop up window available to specify where the picture resides. Either an URL or on your pc. There used to be a section on the website...

Hi there,
I am very keen to get into rowing and would be grateful if you could advise when the next programmes of lessons is set to kick off.
Having watched the olympics and I am really fired up for this and would love to get some lessons sooner rather than later! I have already dropped an email to the Club Secretary but as i have received no reply.
Please can you drop me a line with what I must do! Regards Alex

Thanks guys,
wasn't a rant directed to anybody in any way, more of an observation.
With the insurance culture that we now have to live by, (it seems nowadays you can't even scratch your elbow in public without signing some sort of H&S disclaimer along with a risk assessment ) I was surprised at how easy it was coming off the course, to be pointed in the direction of a key and given access to any of the boats.
Thanks for organising the pool session, slap my name down

Mark, As Kirsty says, yes it's being organised. Up until now there has been no organised capsize drill for anyone except the juniors. Obviously this is unacceptable and is the reason it will now be taking place. The only thing stopping people from booking out boats at the moment is common sense, but I agree this isn't acceptable either. Safety-wise it has been club policy that if you have confirmed you can swim the required distance and have been told the dangers of the dock and what not, then you're ok to row. The discussion at the meeting wasn't heated: I brought it up and expressed my bewilderment that someone would want to go into the docks for any reason. Fair enough it's what you'll be falling into, but there are numerous health hazards that aren't worth the risk. As it happened the capsize drill was on the cards for September/October when the membership renewals take place, and we all agreed we need to bring it forward for people such as yourself.
I shall be sending out details to the club fairly soon about it, but it's likely we will have to have a number of sessions to accommodate everyone.
Until then, row safe and stay out of that water as much as possible!

Yes, there are plans afoot to do capsize drills and swim tests at one of the local school pools. Gav and Pete are organising it. I'm sure there will be emails about it when the dates and times have been confirmed.
The discussion at the committee meeting wasn't exactly heated, just people saying they'd rather not go for a swim in the docks unless they have to for exactly the reasons you've listed above!
The message board hasn't been here long, but everyone should know about it because I sent an message to all the yahoo groups. It seems to be taking a while to catch on...

Morning all,
I'm fresh from the last LTR and was surprised that there was nothing stopping anybody from booking out a single or double scull, completely unsupervised and without any sort of safety briefing or direction beforehand.
Seems to me that if you don't know what you're doing trying to row way beyond your ability, (I can think of a few) the harbour is a very dangerous place to be messing about in.
Your boats aren't cheap either
I heard about a discussion that took place at the committee meeting about capsize drills and that somebody mentioned a rumour about somebody wanting to do a drill in the harbour (I also heard that this was quite a heated discussion about how silly this rumour was?)
Well I'm going to own up, that rumour was me
I want to eventually be getting out in a single scull, maybe not for a few months, but I want to be sure I can do it safely. Practising falling into the mucky cold harbour to me makes perfect sense. This is where it is going to happen, so why not do the drill there? (Doing it just off the pontoon at the boathouse, being supervised etc etc)
I've also heard that this drill can be done in a local pool.
Great, where do I put my name down?
Would prefer that
Who wouldn't....Harbour, cold mucky, smelly.
Pool, a little bit warmer, cleaner, no dead bodies etc etc
PS Is it common knowledge throughout the club that this message board exists?
